On the final leg of our UK Craft Tour we travelled up to Glasgow to unveil our Autumn/Winter collection Midnight Forest at the indie shopping hub that is Made In the Shade. Heralded by culture bible, Amelia's Magazine as 'the greatest indie shopping secret of modern times', Made In The Shade boutique shopping events showcase off-beat design, neo-craft and vintage lifestyle combined with a swingin' soundtrack, edibles, drinkables and public crafting!
The MITS organisers and hosts are three creative indiepreneurs and vintage enthusiasts: Carrie Maclennan, Clare Nicolson & Suzanne Smith. The rockin’ trio made our trip super swell exchanging many an e-mail during the lead up to the day and then inviting us out to dance our lil socks off around Glasgow on the Saturday night!
The event was jam packed with D.I.Y dollies and I was excited to be seated opposite Debi and her Feel Fuzzy treats. It took me all of 10 minutes to give in and buy one of her notebooks which are made from recycled children’s books. I then spent most of the day eyeing up her squirrel cards and wooden magnets. Nostalgia-a-go-go!
It was lovely to finally see Clare Nicholson’s family of birdie homewares and beautiful gifts in person. Tweet! Tweet!
Clare's Country Crafting table was also set up to keep anyone and everyone amused. Who doesn't want to colour in a fun lovin' banana - just be sure to keep within the lines! Oops.
I totally fell in love with Librarian Barbarian’s Knick Knack brooches! Just like me, designer-maker Markie has a huge collection of kitsch ceramic ornaments and one day she was feeling frustrated that she couldn’t wear any of the cute critters so she dreamt up the Knick-knack felt brooch! Super fun!
I hooted with joy at Laura Donald’s stitched interpretations of Eastenders characters including Dot Cotton and Ethel and Willy! I treated myself to shrinky dink charm versions of Pat and Frank. Brilliant.
The event was held over two floors and I managed to slip away for a quick sneak peek at the floor below. Leah Halliday's stand caught my eye with a teeming table of handpicked vintage pieces from ceramics to art, jewellery to stationery. Could I really carry home a set of 6 amazing cocktail glasses, I restrained myself.
The whole Glasgow weekender was such fun! We sold out of our new Owl and Moon glitter necklace, met a whole bunch of lovely gals and danced to a hillbilly version of fat bottomed girls. You've probably noticed that we haven't included a snap of our stall... well that's because the new collection is still under wraps for a day or two, but if glitter bronze hedgehogs, twilight toadstools and glitter red ladybirds are on your costume jewellery wishlist then join our mailing list to be the first to know when Midnight Forest is launched!
