Everyone at Lady Luck Rules OK was in full on jing-a-ling festive mode last weekend at the Super Christmas Market at Somerset House. We were given a whole room to play with which we decided to turn into a fun filled snow frenzy of games, prizes and pop rocker jewellery! This year the entrance to the market was through the newly opened Embankment Art Galleries which is behind the ice rink on the Victoria Embankment. Alas we were a little tucked away but an old Japanese friend of mine used to say the best things are always a little hard to find thus always the more special when you discover them!
The main room was simple and tasteful with a wonderful selection of designers showcasing one or two products on neat white benches. In the corner of the main room stood our 8ft candy cane beckoning those who were a little more playful at heart to come hither into our snowy wonderland of fun and games.
Upon turning the corner stood the lovely Juliana in head to toe festive finery including the biggest door knocker decoration which she'd brought to me in the morning asking if I could turn it into a necklace. I obliged with great joy! Juliana handed out free LLROK tote bags to the first 50 through the doors on the Friday night. She also ensured everyone had a FREE spin of the festive wheel which decided if a person was "ho ho ho" or "humbug" this Christmas and handed out the stickers to prove it.
Once into the room there were lots of things to buy, make and win! "Dipping" and "throwing" were the main activities. Our snow filled lucky dip was super popular with most gals seemingly feeling very lucky and having multiple dips, whilst small children were being picked up, turned upside down and literally dunked into the tub. Upon realising we had 100 unused white balloons and nearly a full tank of helium Aline created the balloon portrait area. We were also making jewellery to order from our Personalise it! collection and selling all our goodies from Superette and the website.
My favourite part of the snow extravaganza was Frosty's Bar! It was a game Sam and I devised over dinner at the newly opened Luncheonette at All Stars on Brick Lane. The main aim of the game was to "Stop Frosty making another Snowball" by knocking at least four of the ingredients to make the snowball off of Frosty's Bar using 5 giant pom pom snowballs. Oh and to make it a little harder wearing an oversized pair of ice blue mittens! Ha ha! The prize? A Jewel-POP bow necklace! Yay! Sam designed and made Frosty, his totally trashy bar and the ingredient targets. Aline, Sophie and Zohra made the giant pom poms and the smaller versions for us to wear as snowball headbands with our heart motif stripy aprons.
Kandy Diamond joined us for the weekend and she sold her natty D.I.Y kits including a pom pom beret kit and button bracelet kit both specially designed for the event and in the crafts corner she hosted a super "paper" chain challenge. The aim of the challenge was to knit a paperchain style garland making it as long as possible by the end of the Market on Sunday. We were joined by many eager little elves over the weekend who either knitted or crocheted a little loop to add on and in the quieter moments we all helped. The photo above is Jen teaching Laura how to knit. Even Sam had a go. Unfortunately I have to admit I did not add to the chain...I went to the Craft Rocks night at the V&A a few years ago where I discovered I have absolutely no ability to knit whatsoever.
It was such a swell (but utterly exhausting) weekend! I wanna thank all the lovely gals 'n' guy who helped us make Frosty's vision come true - Sam, Laura, Aline, Sophie, Kandy, Jen, Zohra, Penni, Juliana and Tunmike. You all worked so, so hard. I just hope none of you have hit the bottle due to a snowy wonderland related stress disorder... til next year xxx
