A pot of tea and a slice of the most delicious victoria sponge has been my regular Sunday morning treat for the past few months as Sam and I have slipped away from the throngs of green fingered locals at Columbia road flower market and into the Cake Hole behind Vintage Heaven. Owned by the lovely Margaret and her brother Billy who were the people behind Shipps Tearooms which sadly closed earlier this year, the shop and cafe are literally bursting with stylish and quirky kitchenalia, objets d'art and knick knacks which just sing to you "buy me, buy me, buy me" as you squeeze by. My favourite part is the huge wall of framed tapestries (Sophie Ellis Bexter purchased three dontcha know) and whilst sitting there slurping my third cuppa one Sunday I thought this would make an ACE location for our next photoshoot. So last Friday we shot our all new Russian doll name necklaces for our page in Nude magazine with the help from Tomoko our hair and make up supremo; Anastasia a local graphic designer turned model for the day; Faye our intern who spent the past week raiding all vintage stores in East London for block colour folk style clothing which was no easy task; Laura our photographer and Margaret who spoiled us with cups of tea and cakes all day. It was such a hoot - note to self must get out of the studio more often. I'll post the photos soon and the new name necklaces will hopefully be up online next week.
In the meantime if London is your playground then pop along to the Cake Hole Cafe at Vintage Heaven, 82 Columbia Road, London E2 7QB. Opening times are Fridays 9.30 - 17.30, Saturdays 10.30 - 18.30 and Sundays 7.30 to 17.30. It's also available for private hire, please call Margaret on 07846 703263. Plus knitting, gardening and book groups are held once a month, call for details. We're all going to the knitting club this Tuesday!
I love Cakehole -I've not been in a few weeks, didn't realise it was now open Fridays and Saturdays...will have to find an excuse to pop over that way tomorrow now!
