We celebrated Superette's first birthday last Friday with flowing sparkly and piles of scrummy cakes. The divine Viva Cake lasses donned their pretty 50s aprons and headed into the privacy of the Superette changing rooms to taste test the entries in our Birthday Cake Bake Off. Meanwhile party go-ers made the most of the 10% discount and snapped up last minute Christmas gifts for friends and treats for themselves.
Kate and Jazz were delighted to announce the winners - first prize to Mr Owl, second prize to Pin-up Girl Cupcakes and third prize to the Rave Cakes. All entries were fabulous and gobbled up immediately after the prizes were given out. We had to disqualify the banana with "i'm a cake" written on the front and "don't judge me" underneath. Fair's fair.
About 9-ish we pulled down the shutters and continued the party at Wildcats. A big thanks to everyone who came, it was a truly special evening, I got a bit tiddly and a bit emotional but hey it's Christmas!
So Superette is now closed for the rest of 2006 and will reopen on Tuesday 2nd January at midday. Lady Luck is taking a well earned break and we have promised ourselves we won't be switching on any of the computers between Christmas Eve and New Years Day! Which means no customer e-mails will be answered or orders posted between these dates either. I wanna say a massive thank you to all our loyal customers who have supported us throughout 2006 - we salute you! 2007 will start with a big bang for us with a wild January sale and then FINALLY the all new website will launch on Valentines day...
I can't believe it's been a whole year since we opened Superette, making jewellery in my pyjamas really is a distant memory. We'd love y'all to come and celebrate with us this Friday 15th December between 6pm and 9pm - there'll be music, drinks and a crackin' 10% off all goodies! PLUS the super-duper scenesters Viva Cake will be hosting a Birthday Cake Bake Off. We welcome ALL entries from the smallest cupcake to multi layered wonder cakes. Judging will commence at 8pm and the girls will be looking for original ingredients, fun decorating and the all important taste factor. There is a goodie bag bursting full of Lady Luck Rules OK and Lazy Oaf treats for the winning entry. Get your oven mitts out gals 'n' guys and we'll see you on Friday. Why not comment this entry to let us know you're coming as space is limited...
Superette is at 66a Sclater Street, Off Brick Lane, London, E1 6HR. The closest tube is Liverpool Street Station and nearest bus stop is outside the Tea Building on the No 8. Click here for a map of the area.
...what a week! We've been planning for the Clothes Show Live since summer but nothin' could have prepared us for the mental shopping frenzy that ensued. We drove up to Birmingham on the Thursday morning and were at the NEC until midnight putting up our stand. Sam had designed and built the whole kit and kaboodle. Our home resembled a carpenter's workshop for the previous 2 weeks - sawdust everywhere! We papered the front of the bar with LLROK logo wallpaper and the pegboard behind was painted like Blondies' Parallel Lines album cover. Behind the bar were nifty storage shelves bursting full of goodies and on top of the bar 3 perpex trays displaying each and every product. Ooh we were all ready for 6 days of sunny shopping fun. We got a good night's sleep in a converted barn B&B in Solihull...
We were up at 7am the next day ready for the grand opening at 9am when straight away the stand was swamped with Lady Luck fans goin' crazy for all the new goodies and our special discounted prices. I did feel a bit dizzy. The cavalry arrived later that day in the form of our lovely intern Clare - I don't think she knew what she was getting into! The new mini Gumball Goodies necklace and silver glitter boomboxes sold out by day 2, followed by Hot Lips, Anchors and Sailboats. Luckily we'd packed extra chain and jump rings as the huge heart candy necklaces were flying out so we had to make more and more for each day. And the LLROK tote bag was a big hit and now you guys can all snap one up right here.
We met zillions of lovely customers and managed to snap a few too...once I'd worked out how to use Sam's camera. If I took your photo and your pic isn't here it's because I hadn't been pressing the OK button after taking the picture until day 3! Booo! I also have a note of names I just have to find the scraps of paper somewhere, so check back soon... It was super cool seeing customers arrive already wearing Lady Luck jewellery and there were a few hundred more who left wearing it! Yay!
I had a mini nightmare in the midst of the show as although I had internet access, the server wouldn't let me send any e-mails...OH MY GOD...I felt stranded. I usually reply to my customer e-mails in the blink of an eye so please accept my apologies for any e-mails which weren't answered with our usual speed. We know it's an anxious time of year for you guys buying Christmas pressies online, so please rest assured ALL orders received before Christmas deadlines will be delivered in time for that all important gift giving day. Ahhh Christmas, I love it! ***DIY Trend Alert*** we saw lots of kool kids wearing home made cassette tape necklaces, mostly on super long chunky chains. We salute craftin' music makin' fun!
The days flew by and by Wednesday 6.30pm when the show closed we all exhaled a huge sigh of relief as it was time to go home - back to London, back to Superette and back to normality. We had one last night in brum before our van arrived to collect our stuff on Thursday, we were one of the last stands to leave and this was the deserted mess that had been the world's largest shopping event just one day previous. So it looks like it's the same time again next year...I think I need a year to recover!!! Hope to see you there. xxx
